Brilliant Product So Far

We recieved this monitor as a shower gift, and although this wasn't the one we had registered for, we're pleased as punch that we got this one. Both receivers pick up really clearly, now and again uncannily so. We rarely get interference or static, and on those occasions we do, it doesn't last long and doesn't interfere with the clarity enough to be worried or distressed, as we can still hear what's going on in the nursury. I like the light-up LED spectacle, as you get a visual indicator of the loudness and intensity of your baby's (or in our case, babies') cries or the music playing, or whatever sound or noise is being uttered or projected. This is handy when you've got the TV up a small loud or have loud, conversational company over, or if you were examination impaired or had examination-impaired babysitter (Most people try to avoid scenarios like these, I'm sure, but this is your go-to monitor if you do find physically in these situations). The four different channel settings could come in handy, too, if you have another 900MHz device, such as a phone, and don't want them to interfere.

Although I don't plot on using the figure, I could really go out into the yard with one of the receivers and still hear the babies clearly. I have tested it for that gathering and it works quite well. I must add, though, that we live in a rather small, single tale house of about 1100 sq ft, which may contribute to the brilliant reception. I don't know how this or any other monitor would work in larger or multiple storied homes.

In summary, for our purposes, this is a high-quality baby monitor for a decent price, as I've read reviews for some that were twice as expensive and twice as crappy.
fantastic monitor! excellent customer service from mattel

I researched various monitors and bought this one for its long range and clarity.
I got the 2 monitor package. It is silent, nearly too insightful (silent noises can sound loud) and excellent range - works at my city neighbors house fine! It by all accounts eats batteries - long range takes more power so that wouldnt bolt from the blue me - I only use it plugged in.
After about a month one of the two receivers quit working - static, then lost signal beeping. When I got around to calling mattel they had me try with a array and then said they would send me a substitution receiver at once, no questions!
I reckon the reviews of this product as horrible got defective ones - as I supposed, since I got one of each! But being one of two it wasnt a major conundrum.
I wish that I had followed other reviews better on this.

Reviewer: Kim M. Talbot,
I read a few reviews on this product but skimmed over the halfhearted ones that mentioned fuzzy reception and other dislikes. I chose this product since we had a Fisher-Price monitor before and it was fantastic. I bought this 2 months ago and now it "chatters" whenever it is on. We tried to let the batteries run out on both receivers and unplugged the base and nothing seems to stop the chattering. Also, we use a white noise machine when my daughter is napping and you hear more of the static from that than any noises that my daughter might be making. Unfortunately, I thought that this would work so I got rid of the box and receipt and now I can't return it. I guess I have learned my lesson.
Convenience at a price

My son is 9 months ancient. We were detective novel to get this monitor as a shower gift and have used it daily. The conundrum with the monitor is that we have only used it during naptime since our baby sleeps in our room at night yet the batteries in the monitor no longer charge. You can charge it overnight and you MIGHT get 15 summary of use out of it. We are left with no choice but to leave the receivers plugged in to use them. Not just so the convenience we were hoping for. We took the back off of the receiver to see if perhaps we could replace the batteries but they are hard-wired batteries that cannot be replaced. This is a excellent thought but needs a lot of improvement before it's a truly useful technology. Sadly, these were a huge waste of money for somebody who wanted to give my child a gift that would last.
